All You Can Eat Brunch at WHISK

All You Can Eat Brunch at WHISK

For those that know me, I have never been a huge fan of Hotel Champagne Brunches or Buffets as the food is often dull & boring, with majority of the places offering the same type of food & format. The truth is, I never expect a true gastronomical experience from hotel brunches just simply because you know there is every reason to why such set menu or buffet menu is created (to make revenue of course) & the worst to come is the Champagne buffet gets you wrecked so no ones really gives a toss about the food. Hotel buffets play a very big part in the lives of Hong Kong people, check... [Read the full story]

Battle of Sze Chuan & Yunnan Noodle – 譚仔雲南米線(三哥) x Barchua House (巴蜀軒豬扒酸辣米線)

As a Wan Chai resident, one cannot doubt the area is a mega-food hub along with Jordan in Kowloon, with uncountable number of good cheap eats & very relatively unknown restaurants which serve up simple yet wonderful food. It is a privilege & honour to be part of Wan Chai neighbourhood for sure. As always, our usual leisurely walk on Wan Chai Road on a fine Saturday led us to the relatively new-ish opened 譚仔雲南米線(三哥) (badly translated to Mr Tam’s Yunnan Noodles) & what a good way to cure a minor hangover with some serious spice, heat & sweat. Yunnan Cuisine... [Read the full story]

Weekday Dinner Gone Wild with Michelle Lee

Weekday Dinner Gone Wild with Michelle Lee

Homecooked Thai Menu: Fresh Lemongrass Tea, Thai Style Chicken Satay & Thai Green Mango Salad with Michelle Lee   There are days when I am feeling under the weather and consider my kitchen closed for the day, but I am never too busy to cook for my loved ones and being a foodie helps a lot. A weekday dinner should be nourishing, quick, simple, delicious and prepared with only passion and love. Yesterday was different though. I was basking in a good mood and so, I went wild and prepared a Thai dinner at home. Nothing too grand still, but I treated it like a cook-off and managed to churn out... [Read the full story]

One’s Last Meal

August 13, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Just realised that I haven’t written a SINGLE POST for around 2 months, due to many many reasons. Firstly, World Cup 2010 took 1/2 my liver away and there goes days whereby you lost count in what day & time it is & you start losing touch with reality as your mind is all filled with Corona, Football Action & WAGS. Secondly, a switch to a new job doesnt help either & thirdly, as some of you may know that my big day (marriage) will be in 2 months time therefore life has been pretty hectic. To find time to sit down properly to write a post is luxury & thank god I finally found... [Read the full story]

Could this Possibly Be The Best Pan Fried Bun?

Could this Possibly Be The Best Pan Fried Bun?

May 30, 2010 · 6 Comments

Very ambitious title this is, the best Pan Fried Xiao Long Bao in the World? Long have we lived in a very shallow city of Hong Kong whereby we believe that Crystal Jade & Din Tai Fung are amongst some of the best dumplings we have had – not saying they aren’t great but there has gotta be dumplings in the country of its roots whereby it’s gotta be better than those 2 very commercial joints. Long have I heard about Xiao Yang Pan Fried Bun (小楊生煎) & some claims that it is a true representative of Pan Fried Dumplings of Shanghai. So, after our chow down on the Ah Lang... [Read the full story]

Now back to Gastronommy’s Hong Kong Noms Series!  As a reminder, the Hong Kong Noms Series focuses on specific Gastronommy favorite dishes rather than the entire menu at particular restaurants.  My preference for a specific dish may not reflect my impression of the rest of the menu.  Also, my chosen numerical order of listing is [...]

Highlights of Pigging in Shanghai (Part 2)

Day 2 of Shanghai was full of smiles & happiness as it was complete feasting on delectable Shanghainese Cuisine & with a sprang of surprise which was Japanese Cuisine in the Xin Tian Di area, a remotely more hip & Western area filled with restaurants & bars. The happiness was due to the fact that our [...]
